Licensing authority: Vermont Department of Financial Regulation · Application information
Initial nonresident licensure with comparable license credentials — experience
- Application
- Submit the prescribed application, required documentation, and applicable application and licensing fees.
- Certification
- DFR permits certification from a state where the applicant passed an examination and is currently licensed; otherwise take the Vermont P&C examination. For P&C paper applications, home-state certification must be no older than 90 days.
- Designated Home State Conflict
- The DFR Public Adjuster application page states “Public Adjusters who have a Designated Home State (DHS), can apply using NIPR”; NIPR’s nonresident adjuster renewal instructions state “Public Adjusters may not designate a Home State.” The latter applies to renewal; applicants should consult DFR about their eligible application channel.
- Exam Waiver
- The Commissioner may waive the Vermont written examination when a comparable examination was passed or a like license was continuously held before examinations were required. Another state’s examination is applicant evidence, not a Vermont route leaf.
- Experience Pathway
- At least two years of experience handling the relevant loss claims.
- Fitness
- The Commissioner must deem the applicant competent, trustworthy, financially responsible, and of good personal and business reputation.
- Minimum Age
- At least 18 years old.
