Initial licensure by examination after Nevada funeral arranger practice
All of the following:
- Age
- The statute requires the applicant to be over 18 years of age (NRS 642.360(2)); the Board application describes eligibility as at least 18.
- Application
- Submit the completed and verified applicable Board application and required supporting documents; disclose criminal history and legal matters where required; pay applicable fees.
- Education Credit
- The Board may grant equivalent credit for a qualifying education or training program under NAC 642.088.
- Fingerprints
- Submit a complete set of fingerprints and written authorization for state and FBI criminal-history reports under NRS 642.511.
- Military Fees
- NAC 642.089 exempts active-duty members and their spouses from the application fee and reduces the fee by half for qualifying veterans and surviving spouses.
- Moral Character
- Provide proof satisfactory to the Board of good moral character under NRS 642.512; the Board investigates character under NRS 642.513.
- National Exam Waiver
- NRS 642.360(4) excuses portions duplicating a previously passed Conference national examination; the Board's current instructions identify NBE-Arts and NVLRR. A prior passing score remains a condition and does not require retaking merely because the examination is referenced.
- Prior Sbe Score
- The 2021 Funeral Director application accepts a passing Nevada State Board Exam score as an alternative to NBE-Arts. That discontinued examination is prior evidence only; The Conference moved SBE eligibility to NBE-Arts on January 1, 2023.
- Qualifying Practice
- Complete one year of active practice as a funeral arranger in Nevada before applying.
- Testing
- Have passing exam score reports released by The Conference to the Board before licensure; the Board authorizes NVLRR and NBE-Arts testing.
Annual renewal of a grandfathered license issued on or before July 1, 1959
- Continuing Education
- Comply with applicable funeral-director continuing-education requirements.
- Eligibility
- This is renewal of an existing license issued to a person conducting funeral-director business at a fixed Nevada establishment on July 1, 1959, who applied within the statutory 30-day window; it is not a currently open initial route.
- Fees
- Pay the annual renewal fees required by NRS 642.420.
Placement of a license in inactive status
- Practice
- Do not practice while the license is inactive; renewal fees and penalties are not required for the inactive period.
- Request
- Submit a written request and pay the applicable fee.
- Standing
- Hold a Nevada license in good standing.
Approval to manage a funeral establishment or direct cremation facility
- Application
- Submit the managing-funeral-director request with the required payment.
- Availability
- Be reasonably available during regular business hours; residence within 120 miles creates a presumption of availability.
- License Held
- Hold a Nevada funeral-director license; management approval is an additional approval for each premises, not a separate professional license.
- Multiple Locations
- Unless the Board grants a public-interest exception, locations must be less than 120 miles apart and no more than three places of business may be managed.
