- The July 2026 handbook states: 1. Applicants who have held a resident license in another state within the 90 days prior to submitting their Colorado application are exempt from passing the examination for the lines of authority that were held in their previous resident state. If Pearson VUE is unable to verify previous licensure at the time of application through a search of the National Producer Database, the applicant will be required to submit a Letter of Clearance issued by the insurance department in the previous resident state. The broader statutory exemption controls the examination requirement in this survey; the implementing demand remains visible to the applicant.
- Previous licence
- Previously licensed for the same Life line in Colorado or elsewhere, under C.R.S. 10-2-403(1)(a). Its additional timing and certification restrictions expressly apply to nonresident applicants.

- Statutory clearance
- C.R.S. 10-2-402(1) separately exempts a same-line applicant licensed elsewhere during the immediately preceding twelve months who supplies the prescribed good-standing letter of clearance.
