Submit the full producer application and required information; meet the ordinary requirements except passage of the examination, and pay the temporary-license and applicable application fees. The apprentice form lists Personal Lines and a $50 resident fee.
Duration
Nonrenewable; maximum 180 days, then obtain a full producer license before further licensed activities.

Duration
Continues indefinitely unless suspended, revoked or terminated, subject to payment of required fees.
Fees
Nonresident business entities pay biennial fees by April 1 of odd years; resident business entities pay by December 1 of even years.

Officers
Officers, directors, members and partners performing producer activities must be individually licensed; persons not performing them or receiving volume-based compensation need not be licensed.
Residency

Continuation relief for military service or other extenuating circumstances
No examination is required for this applicant pathway.
Circumstances
A licensed producer unable to comply with continuation procedures because of military service or another extenuating circumstance, such as long-term medical disability, may request relief.
Discretion
The producer may request waiver of continuation procedures, any examination requirement, or a fine or sanction; approval is the superintendent’s decision.
Underlying Route
This continuation route itself imposes no identified licensing examination; an applicant seeking relicensing must use the applicable relicensing route and may request relief under this subsection.

Official no-examination sources

Effective from 2026-09-22.

Reinstatement within twelve months after license lapse
No examination is required for this applicant pathway.
Distinction
This statutory lapse route is separate from disciplinary suspension, revocation or CE cancellation; the CE FAQ describes cancellation after suspension as requiring a new examination.
Time Limit
Reinstate the same individual personal-lines producer license within twelve months after lapse under §1420-F(3).

Official no-examination sources

Effective from 2026-09-22.

Nonresident individual license continuation

The individual nonresident license is perpetual, with no expiration date or renewal fee under the Producer FAQ.
Education
Home-state continuing education satisfies Maine requirements on a reciprocal basis under §1420-O(2).

Nonresident individual licensing by reciprocity
No examination is required for this applicant pathway.
Application
Submit the proper request, required fee, and home-state application or completed uniform application.

Producer FAQs require applicants subject to 18 U.S.C. §1033 to obtain written insurance-regulatory consent before the license application is considered; nonresidents provide their home-state consent or proof it is not required.
Home State License

Reciprocity
Home state must award nonresident licenses to Maine residents on the same basis.

Official no-examination sources

Effective from 2026-09-22.

Resident relicensing after CE cancellation
Application
The CE FAQ requires retaking the licensing exam, submitting a new application and paying regular fees.
Exemptions
Section 1420-H(3)(A) does not provide its voluntary-termination exemption for suspended prior licenses. Section 1420-F(3) separately provides a twelve-month exemption for a license that lapses; that statutory exemption prevails if the Bureau classifies the applicant’s loss of licensure as a lapse rather than disciplinary cancellation.
Prior Education
The CE FAQ states outstanding CE and the prior late penalty are not required because a new licensing examination is taken.
Trigger
The Bureau cancelled the license for CE noncompliance, or it was suspended before termination.
Resident license continuation
No examination is required for this applicant pathway.
Continuing Education
Complete 24 approved credit hours every biennium, including at least three in ethics, by the birth-month compliance date; no repeated course credit within the same biennium or carryover credits.
First Biennium
The requirement is waived when initial licensure occurs less than one year before the first compliance date.
Renewal Timing
The Producer FAQ says automatic renewal on the first business day following the CE due date; the CE FAQ says the first calendar day following the due date. Both describe continuation on education compliance.
Standing
The license remains effective unless suspended or revoked, subject to applicable fees and education.

Official no-examination sources

Effective from 2026-09-22.

Resident individual licensure by examination
Application
Submit a uniform application with truthful, complete statements and the required licensing fee. The superintendent must find no disqualifying act under §1420-K.
Apprentice Transition
An apprentice continuing producer activities after 180 days must obtain a full producer license under §1420-Q(4); the apprenticeship does not itself grant an examination exemption.
Authority
Application is for Personal Lines under §1420-F(1)(F).
Criminal Consent
Producer FAQs require applicants subject to 18 U.S.C. §1033 to obtain written insurance-regulatory consent before the license application is considered; nonresidents provide their home-state consent or proof it is not required.
Education
The former producer prelicensing education provision was repealed; Rule 542 §4(D) applies only to the extent prelicensing is required by statute.
Minimum Age
At least 18 years old under 24-A M.R.S. §1420-E(1)(A).
Score Timing
Apply within two years after passing one part or all of the examination; otherwise §1410(6) requires registration and payment for a subsequent examination.
Resident licensure based on a prior same line license
No examination is required for this applicant pathway.
Application
Meet the resident application, age, eligibility and fee requirements except for the examination waived by §1420-H.
Currency
That license is currently active, or application is received within 90 days of its cancellation.
Good Standing
Prior-state certification or NAIC producer database establishes good standing for the requested authority.
Prior Authority
Previously licensed in another state for the same personal-lines authority.

Official no-examination sources

Effective from 2026-09-22.

Resident relicensing after revocation
Disqualification
A person revoked twice under §1417 or §1420-K is not eligible for any license under this Title.
Exemption
The voluntary-termination examination exemption does not apply to a revoked or suspended prior license. Other independently applicable statutory exemptions remain applicant-specific conditions.
Qualification
Reestablish qualification under the applicable provisions of Title 24-A and show good cause why the revocation should not bar a new license.
Waiting Period
Wait at least one year from the effective revocation date, or one year from a final court order affirming it if appealed.
Resident licensure after relocation to Maine
No examination is required for this applicant pathway.
Application
Submit the resident application and fee.
Board Rule
Section 1420-H(2) reserves an exception when the superintendent determines otherwise by rule; the Producer FAQ implements this route without the Maine examination.
Prior Authority
Examination exemption applies to the same line of authority previously held; §1420-H(1) requires the prior license to be active or cancelled within 90 days with good standing verified.
Relocation
A producer licensed in another state moves to Maine; apply within 90 days of establishing legal residence.

Official no-examination sources

Effective from 2026-09-22.
